On Saturday, October 21, 2006, the Borough of Sea Isle City planted 250 beach plum seedlings. An additional 250 plants were given to the public. Volunteers from the borough as well as members of the CMC Beach Plum Association assisted in the effort to bring these drought resistant and salt-tolerant plants to Sea Isle's beachfront. The trees that were planted were about 3 feet tall and should bloom in the spring of 2007 followed by a fruit crop in the fall.

The City of Ocean City's Shade Tree Committee and Coastal conservation Commission co-sponsored beach plum planting along the dunes on the 12th to 14th Street beaches on Tuesday, October 24, 2006. The 100 trees were planted by student volunteers from the environmental clubs of Winslow Twp. High School and Ocean City High School as part of "Make a Difference Day". By planting the trees along the boardwalk, the students will help raise awareness of the beach plum and its rich history. In addition to providing dune stabilization, the trees will also provide fruit for the CMC Beach Plum Association's project that aims to create a trademarked brand of Cape May county "boardwalk" beach plums that will eventually be found in local boutiques and bed & breakfast inns.
